If you ❤️ the advocacy work IIANC does on behalf of you and every North Carolina independent insurance agent, then consider contributing to iPAC in 2025!
iPAC is IIANC’s political action committee that supports state legislative candidates who are solid allies on issues that matter most to the preservation of the independent insurance agency business model.
100% of the candidates iPAC supported in 2024 – both Democrats and Republicans – won their legislative campaign, meaning IIANC has strong relationships on both sides of the aisle in the state House and Senate, and that’s 100% the goal of iPAC.
These are certainly times where the partisan divide in our nation is significant, but IIANC asks you to set aside political leanings and think like you’re a member of the Independent Agent Party, and make an iPAC contribution in support of your profession.
You can make your iPAC contribution by clicking HERE. For a contribution of $120 or more you get an amazing YETI tumbler.
(And, if you have already made your 2025 iPAC contribution, know that we ❤️ your support – THANK YOU!
IIANC Member Legislators in Action!
IIANC members Senator Todd Johnson and Senator Jim Burgin were both successful advancing legislation they’ve sponsored, with Johnson’s SB 13 that clarifies the $50 referral fee cap passed last year applies only to P&C policies, and Burgin’s SB 24 to require any new healthcare coverage mandates account for the additional cost to consumers, both getting approval in the Senate Rules Committee and passing the full Senate this week.
And, Senate Appropriation Subcommittee meetings are now scheduled for next week, signaling the Senate (the chamber that goes first on the budget this Session) is starting up in earnest the preparation of its version of the state’s biennial budget.
Also This Week
IIANC sponsored a legislative breakfast on Tuesday, and had a great turnout of members of the General Assembly as well as representatives of other insurance interests who were invited to attend, including a number of P&C and health insurance carriers and representatives of NC DOI, Office of State Fire Marshal, and NC Rate Bureau.
Also on hand were representatives of the state’s Risk Management and Insurance programs, including Dean Ulysses Taylor from the Broadwell School of Business and Economics at Fayetteville State University. FSU plans to launch their RMI program in 2026.
Former state House member and IIANC member John Bradford was also in attendance, and spent time after the breakfast with IIANC lobbyist Joe Stewart on some office visits at the Legislative Building.
Bradford is now serving as the chair of the IIANC Governmental Affairs Committee, and is a great addition to advocacy efforts as he is widely respected by his former state legislative colleagues of both parties.
And Finally
The NC Alliance for Safe Transportation (NCAST – www.besafenc.org) held the second annual Sweethearts of Safety Awards Luncheon on Thursday, recognizing a law enforcement agency, a traffic safety advocate, and elected officials who have demonstrated a strong commitment to advancing the cause of keeping NC roads and highways safe for everyone.
IIANC lobbyist Joe Stewart, who serves as chair of the NCAST Board, presented awards to IIANC members Senator Jim Burgin and Senator Kevin Corbin, as well as Representative Sarah Crawford, for their ongoing support of a hands-free driving law for North Carolina.
